Clara Guerrero is a San Antonian Account Director, originally born in Brownsville, TX (which most of us call Lil Mexico) but grew up in SA. She attended St. Mary’s University, ranked among the top colleges in the west for best value and academic reputation by U.S. News and World Report.
She began her career on the client side, with Allstate Insurance and Bank of America, allowed her to develop an understanding of Marketing Financial Services from retail to sponsorships to traditional media. After leaving the bank Clara decided to try something on her professional bucket list – working for an agency.
Turned out timing was right because an agency had just won the USAA Business, and brought her on board to provide expertise in military banking, project management and relationship building. Clara then switched from Banking to Investments, quarterbacking a team to get them from research to strategy to campaign development, overcoming all barriers and misconceptions about investing.
Clara soon began working with a local award-winning agency’s Military Entertainment client (who send shows to our troops overseas). Currently, Clara manages the event marketing with a high volume of digital work – content, social media, web – and hosting a Japan & US tour with Grammy award winning artist, Shaggy.
What apprenticeship experience did you benefit from most?
The best and most rewarding experience was going from being a client to working as agency partner. Sill in the world of marketing but with the ability to be more strategic and creative versus executional. I got great gratification from learning some thing different and new while strengthening and sharpening the skills and that would prepare me for leadership roles.
What emerging marketing technology excites you?
I have two and I’m fasciated by both as a marketer and user. Experiential marketing is one, the other is mobile applications, both in terms of events and branding.
